How to stay well in high stress environments.
If you've been hiding under a rock during 2020 then let me know where, however 2020 has come with mass amounts of high intense stress & culture uproar. First in Australia we had bush fires, COVID on and off again, Protests and new rules on how daily life is suppose to be led.
I've found a lot of patients experiencing a new type of anxiety which i like to call "environment stress" It feels uncomfortable as there are so many changes happening & so little that is out of our control.
My top tips on how to stay well in these times include:
1. Keep as much of your routine as possible, its easy to turn into a hermit & stay in bed all day BUT humans flourish & feel safe when there is a routine and some kind of system in place. Whether its getting up slightly later but at the same time, can help.
2. Avoid over exposure to negativity, this includes the friends that suck the life out of you, this also includes constant checking of news, followers on Instagram & Facebook that provide self doubt & negativity.
3. Keeping up with good food, food is medicine as we like to say, as much as it is easy to keep snacking and eating junk to fill us, it only makes us feel good for a very short period of time. this can be helped by keeping regular meals with a balance of healthy fats such as avocados, sardines, salmon, olive oil, hemp seeds, chia seeds, and flaxseed oil.
complex carbohydrates such as sweet potato, quinoa, brown rice, amaranth, oats.
and protein sources like chickpeas, salmon, chicken, slow cooked red meats etc.
And keeping snack foods to healthy home cooked versions like swapping Cadbury chocolate for dark 80% chocolate, crisps for home cooked potato baked chips, soda for low sugar kombucha and baked pastries for home cooked ones.
Remember to look after yourself, you cant help the world when your empty yourself. Fill your health bucket back up and stay well.
Lots of positive Love your Naturopath Mim
